PORK SPECTACULAR

GENERAL RULES

  1. Must be 21 years or younger as of January 1, 2019.
  2. All exhibitors must be a CPPA Junior member in good standing or pay the higher entry fee.
  3. All exhibitors MUST provide a Premise ID at the time of entry. To register go to – www.californiaid.org.
  4. All exhibitors MUST complete the or Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) training to participate. ** Training to completed online & certificate included with entries and/or at check-in. To become certified go to – pork.org/youth-pqa-plus. **
  5. Entry Deadline – Entries must be postmarked no later than June 1, 2019.
  6. Late Fee – $25 per entry.
  7. Entries are non-refundable.
  8. All hogs must be checked in by 9:00 am Saturday. If exhibitor is late, a fee of $50 per hour will be charged and may not be able to show.
  9. CPPA reserves the right to refuse any entry.
  10. Exhibitors are responsible for weighing their own hogs.

JUNIOR BREEDING GILT SHOW

  1. Show will be broken into: All Other Breeds, Duroc, Hampshire, Yorkshire & Crossbred
  2. Gilts born on or after November 1, 2018 eligible.
  3. Purebred Gilts – Must submit a copy of registration papers with entries &/or at check-in. Those without registration papers will show as a Crossbred.
  4. Crossbred Gilts – Entries will be weighed and classes will be broken down by weight. Crossbred gilts must weigh 375 pounds or less, and must weigh back within 15 pounds (plus or minus) of their declared weight. The top three gilts in each class will be weighed during the show. No minimum weight. Official weight cards for Crossbred Gilts must be submitted to show management by noon Saturday.
  5. Premiums:
    1. Champion Gilt: $1,000 and Belt Buckle
    2. Reserve Champion Gilt: $500
    3. Division Champions & Top Five Overall Gilts to receive awards.
    4. Class winners: 1st $50; 2nd: $40; 3rd, 4th, and 5th awarded prizes.
  6. This is NOT a terminal show.

JUNIOR BARROW SHOW

  1. Show will be broken into: All Other Breeds, Duroc, Hampshire, Yorkshire & Crossbred
  2. Entries will be weighed and classes will be broken down by weight. Barrows must weigh 290 pounds or less, and must weigh back within 15 pounds (plus or minus) of their declared weight. The top three barrows in each class will be weighed during the show. No minimum weight. Official weight cards must be submitted to show management by noon Saturday.
  3. Premiums:
    1. Champion Barrow: $1,000 and Belt Buckle
    2. Reserve Champion Barrow: $500
    3. Division Champions & Top Five Overall Barrows to receive awards.
    4. Class winners: 1st $50; 2nd: $40; 3rd, 4th, and 5th awarded prizes.
  4. This is NOT a terminal show.

CALIFORNIA BRED & FED (CBF) DIVISION

  1. All hogs must show in the gilt or barrow show.
  2. Hog must be bred by a California hog producer, raised, and fed in California.
  3. All CBF entries must be accompanied with a copy of the purchase receipt from a California breeder. Exception for registered gilts which must submit a copy of the registration papers.
  4. Failure to provide a receipt will disqualify the animal from this division. If the show management should question the origin of the animal, further documentation may be required from the breeder (litter sheet, photos, etc.). Any exhibitor found to fraudulently enter their hog into this division will be disqualified with no refund of entry fees and be banned from any further participation in CPPA sponsored events.
  5. The top CBF hogs from each division will be selected to determine the Champion and Reserve CBF Gilt and Champion and Reserve CBF Barrow.
  6. An overall Supreme and Reserve Supreme CBF will be selected.
  7. Premiums:
    1. Champion CBF: Exiss Popper
    2. Reserve Champion CBF: $500

HERDSMAN AWARD

New this year is the “The Herdsman Award”. This award will be presented to the Jr. CPPA member that does an excellent job caring for the hogs they are exhibiting, keeps a neat pen area and gets involved the show activities by creating a pen display that goes along with the theme of the show – Pork Spectacular, the Greatest Show in California – a circus theme. Individuals will be judged on the following: general appearance of the area and animals, signs and decorations. Must be a current Jr. CPPA member to be eligible.
